Gestural Abstraction with Charlotte Ivey Sunday 5 October 2025 11:00 am – 3:30 pm

Description

Join abstract painter Charlotte Ivey in this deep dive into expressive brushwork. We'll look at using action, brush, and paint to portray a sense of captured movement.

We’ll explore the capabilities of semi-transparents to accentuate strokes and maximise play with luminous light, as well as opaques for creating multi-colour/multi-tonal strokes that capture the beauty of interplaying pigments.

We’ll also play with speed, and some experimental gestural techniques that bring moments of chance and spontaneity to your work.

Simple compositional and colour palette frameworks will be provided to allow for a focus on brushwork, however those who are more confident will be free to explore their own compositions and build on complexity.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, to painters with some experience.
