Wanting to explore the world of abstraction? Join abstract painter Charlotte Ivey in this one-day workshop in Brunswick, Melbourne. Starting with image references from real life, we’ll explore composition, tone, and colour to create unique abstract paintings. This course will cater to a wide range of abilities and confidence levels. My teaching technique is fun, supportive, and focuses on empowering your intuition, so that you can more confidently articulate your own way of seeing. Editing tricks will be provided to help you maximise your own problem-solving abilities. ____________________________________ DATE 10am - 4pm Sunday, 30 November 2025 LOCATION Brunswick Mechanics Institute: 270 Sydney Road, Brunswick VIC, Australia EXPERIENCE LEVEL For beginners to those with some experience. (Students will have the option of simple or more challenging tasks.) MATERIALS TO BRING - Acrylic paints (Bring white and at least 2 other colours. If you need something super cheap, Bunnings tester pots can be fun and are about $6 a pop. Otherwise, grab some acrylics from your local art store.) - A range of brush sizes - At least x3 surfaces to paint on (could be canvas, linen, wooden board. Avoid canvas stuck to cardboard, and canvas paper). - Something to mix your paint on (palette, old plate, plastic container lid...) - Water vessel - Rags for working the paint (cotton is best if possible) - Paper towels or baby wipes for clean-up - An easel if you want (otherwise, we'll be working flat on tables.) - I'll provide some printed images for reference, but if there's subject matter that you connect with (nature? urban scenes?), please bring that along. *NOTE: If you prefer to work in oil paints, you are welcome to bring them instead. You'll also need to bring along linseed oil/medium, and any vessels you need.
